The Kiss (1886)
Auguste Rodin
Marble (87 x 51 x 55 cm)
Musee Rodin, Paris, France
Recorded August 10, 1999
Having taught stone to sing early on, Rodin spent the rest of his life trying to keep it from singing too loudly. Luckily for us he failed most of the time. Rarely has the concept of being played like a musical instrument been illustrated so vividly. This perpetual embrace occurs not only in the highly public foyer of the Rodin Museum but also under the gaze of countless art voyeurs and the squeals and rude comments of giggly children.
